John Billingham has lived in Stevenage for over 40 years. Most of his working life has been based around driving. After working for more than 20 years as a delivery driver and driving about 50,000 mile a year; he was aware of his constant exposure to risk and realised that their was a need to improve the driving standards in this country.
Risking everything he took the plunge and decided to become a self-employed Driving Instructor.
Starting with learners and those who were returning to driving after a break he also found a niche helping experienced drivers of foreign nationality gain their UK licence. The enthusiasum he had eight years ago for teaching new drivers continues to grow and he is as keen as ever to improve the standard of driving throughout the UK. To this end he trained to become one of the few Driving Standards Agency Approved Fleet Driver Trainers. As business expanded he now trains full licence holders as well as learners for people of all ages and experience. Courses cover Eco Driving, Advanced Driver Training and Refresher Courses for all types of companies in both cars and small commercial vehicles. He also delivers Taxi Driver Training.
For the past three years he has been delivering the National Speed Awarness Courses on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council in partenership with Hertfordshire Constabluary he was then awarded the on road contract to deliver the National Driver Improvement Course. This course involves retraining drivers that have been identified by the police as having problems with their driving after a collision.
